the romans occupied the south of the netherlands only
the "rijn" was their border. cuz like that they coulda easly defend therselfs placing watch towers every 5km amongst the rijn.

the northen of nl was then still German occupied.

Having said that (@badflip): for us it used to be much more simple. You just had 1 soviet union, which we called Russia to keep it simple. Now you have a lot of countries, some of them that want to be "Russian", others that are very serious about keeping their own identity. So u'r from Latvia? Does everybody in this country consider themselves Russian?
